James Suckling 2020

  • 94 points | VIGNA AU Chardonnay Riserva 2016  Top Italian White Wine for the Summer #60 out of 100
This has very complex aromas with flinty and chalky pears and lemons, leading to a palate that delivers such intense, concise and complex flavors and textures. Smooth and gently creamy. Some pithy grapefruit cut, too. This is good. A world-class, Italian chardonnay.
  • 94 points | LINTICLARUS Pinot Noir Riserva 2016
Bright lavender, violets and citrus are juxtaposed with dried cloves, red licorice and flirty, tarry accents. Full-bodied and open-knit with a cascade of pretty yet powerful blue fruit, tied up in muscular tannins.
  • 93 points | TURMHOF Sauvignon Blanc 2018  Top Italian White Wine for the Summer #78 out of 100
A very fresh array of limes, melon and grassy wild herbs leads to a palate offering white peaches that are also very fresh, as well as vibrant and juicy. Drink now.
  • 92 points | VIGNA RACHTL Sauvignon Blanc Riserva 2016
Flinty and classically herbal aromas, together with bright, fruity flavors of lemons and limes. The palate has vibrant acidity and a fresh-citrus core.
  • 92 points | VIGNA FELDMARSCHALL VON FENNER Müller-Thurgau 2017
A decently rich array of peaches and melon leads to a very juicy feel on the palate, where poached pears and quince pervade in pithy mode.
  • 92 points | LINTICLARUS Cuvèe Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva 2016
Plenty of dried, dark plums and morello cherries, as well as hints of dried cedar and cloves. Although some juicy, structured tannins manage to draw out the showy fruit and keep it quite tense and chewy, this is certainly a rowdy, fruit-forward affair.
  • 92 points | TARDUS Gewürztraminer Vendemmia Tardiva 2015
An off-dry, late-harvest style that delivers a rich, ripe array of apricot and peach aromas and flavors in textural, fullish mode.
  • 92 points | TURMHOF Pinot Noir 2018
A very fruity style of pinot nero with tons of dried violets, nutmeg, citrus and dried spices. There’s some gravitas to the polished tannins, though, and the vibrant, exuberant fruit is very impressive. Excellent pinot to drink now.
  • 91 points | TURMHOF Chardonnay 2018
Aromas of fresh melons, pears and peaches. The palate has a simple, sheer, crisp feel and there's a gently creamy and buttery build on the finish.
  • 91 points | TURMHOF Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
The deep red and blackcurrant nose leads you into a surprisingly fresh and lively cabernet that doesn’t hide the fact that it comes from a cool region for this grape. The well judged, if slight sappy tannins are nicely integrated on the medium-bodied palate. Long, clean finish with some minerality.
  • 90 points | LINTICLARUS Lagrein Riserva 2016
The enormous nose leads with iodine, tar, blackberry essence and eucalyptus. There’s a really soapy, glycerol-like feel to the full body and plush dark fruit. But a hint of some firm, more detailed tannins reins this in.
  • 90 points | TURMHOF Lagrein 2018
A savory red with black-fruit, sweet-tobacco and flower-leaf undertones. Medium-bodied with round tannins and a flavorful finish.
