95 /100 | RACHTL Sauvignon Blanc Riserva 2018
A single-vineyard expression, the 2018 Alto Adige Sauvignon Blanc Riserva Rachtl is a rich, full-bodied wine with plenty of exotic fruit, golden papaya and ripe honeydew melon. It glides smoothly over the plate with an extraordinary texture and fiber that is glossy and light, but it's also sturdy and generous at the same time. This is a standout expression of Sauvignon Blanc and a very rare wine indeed. The only distraction is that the wine is packed in an unnecessarily heavy glass bottle.
94 /100 | LINTICLARUS Pinot Noir Riserva 2018
Packaged in a thick glass bottle (with only 1,950 made), the 2018 Alto Adige Chardonnay Riserva Vigna Au reveals a luminous golden color with high-toned aromas of lemon zest, summer fresh apricot, Golden Delicious apple and background tones of almond or vanilla essence. The aromas are well balanced, and the oak is invisibly folded into the wine's medium-rich texture. This wine makes good on its Riserva status.
93 /100 | TURMHOF Pinot Noir 2019
This is a true expression of this delicately fragrant grape with a slightly more robust center of gravity. The Tiefenbrunner 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Turmhof (closed in a screw-cap bottle) offers a good amount of fruit intensity that comes across with extra layers of fragrant cherry, potting soil, pressed rose and dried apricot. The wine reveals a dark ruby color with a dense appearance, and that extra concentration is felt across the supple texture and soft fruit weight offered in this classic vintage, best enjoyed with a hearty liver and onions to keep things healthy.
93 /100 | LINTICLARUS Lagrein Riserva 2018
Pouring to an inky black and super concentrated appearance, the Tiefenbrunner 2018 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Linticlarus produces thick waves of dried blackberry and tarry fruit with barbecue smoke and gardening soils. There are subtle hints of licorice and dried rosemary or oregano woven into the rich, full-bodied fiber of this powerful Lagrein Riserva with a 14% alcohol content, meant for a meat casserole.
93 /100 | MERUS Pinot Blanc 2020
Here's a new discovery and a fabulous value. Closed in a handy screw-cap bottle, the Tiefenbrunner 2020 Alto Adige Pinot Blanc Merus (the name of the grape is written in both French and in German as "Weissburgunder" on the front label) shows a luminous golden appearance with an immediate aroma of flint or crushed quartz, which is the first thing you notice on the bouquet. As that striking mineral note recedes, the wine produces aromas of ripe peach, honey and a touch of beeswax. This Pinot Bianco reveals a solid, mid-weight structure with a second wave of mineral intensity that makes for an elegant finish.
